PLANEZES
At the gateway to Fenouilledes, the village of Planezes was built along the banks of the river Agly on a small plateau covered in vines and this probably accounts for its name.
The Roman church of Saint Pierre was mentioned in the year 1119 attesting to the existence of the village. It didn’t expand very much over the centuries even though it appears on the famous Cassini map (1772 – 1777) which mentions winegrowing and in the early twentieth century, iron mining.
Today the village has built its reputation on its winegrowing ( Cave cooperative Planèzes - Rasigueres ) and its small festival of world music that animates the summer evenings in July.
This is called Les Musicales de l'Agly and is presented by the Triangle Association, which brings together both artists in concert as well as local winemakers displaying their produce, and who will offer you an aperitif in a warm, convivial atmosphere. Also worth checking out is the walk from the Roman church of Saint Peter to the chapel of St. Martin. The « vini-viticole » winegrowing trail.
